Mehcad Brooks Did Not Want to Marry until Gay Marriage Was Legal in the USA

Actor and model Mehcad Brooks, known for appearing in Desperate Housewives and Supergirl, has been frank about expressing his views on equal rights for all citizens, especially regarding gay marriage.

In fact, he had been advocating in favor of gay marriage for years before it was legalized in the country. 

Mehcad Brooks Is a Supporter of Equal Rights

In an interview with Honey Magazine in 2009, the interviewer asked Brooks whether he wants to marry someday. To this, the actor confessed that yes, he would.

However, the actor mentioned that he wouldn't marry until it was legal for everybody to get married, irrespective of their orientation.

I want a wife, I want kids. The whole thing. But I’m also not even concerned with marrying somebody until it’s legal for everybody to get married. And what I mean by that is the whole Prop 8 thing.

Brooks found it quite problematic that some people did not have the right to get married just because of their orientation.

He further explained that people of the LGBTIQ+ community often make bridal dresses or do bridal makeup, but the fact that they could not get legally married was something Brooks found offensive. 

I just find it really problematic when you start throwing people’s rights away. Until we get our gay brothers and sisters back into a realm of consciousness that everyone else is in, it’s just not right.

His desire for equal rights was realized when the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in all 50 US states in 2015. 

Further, of late, people have been using pronouns to respect their gender identity, so the 40-year-old actor wasted no time hopping on the bandwagon as he too used his pronouns on his Instagram bio.

A Brief Look At Mehcad Brooks' Relationships

In the interview with Honey Magazine, Brooks described his ideal woman as someone witty, an attentive listener, supportive, and secure.

We’re unsure whether he has found his ideal partner, but the former fashion model has been rumored to date quite a few women in the past.

Back in 2011, he was dating Elisabetta Canalis as they arrived together at the launch of the Beauty Book for Brain Cancer in Hollywood. Moreover, they were also seen displaying their affection publicly and happily posing for pictures.

However, their happiness did not last long as the duo called it off in December 2011, after dating for only a couple of months.

In 2010, he appeared with Victoria’s Secret beauty Selita Ebanks in a commercial for State Farm.

The couple was also seen at the Atlanta Buckhead, where they were reportedly getting cozy and seemed to enjoy spending time with each other.

The same year, Brooks was also rumored to be dating his Creature co-star Serinda Swan. They were seen having a romantic dinner in West Village, New York City, which first sparked the dating rumors. 

The other women he has been linked to include Maria Rogers, Amalie Wichmann, and Rebecca Mader.

However, he hasn’t admitted whether he is still seeing someone as of August 2021. So, it is up for speculation as to who Mechad Brooks' girlfriend is or if there even is one.
