Billy Porter is the definition jack of all trades.

He is an actor who is well known for his roles in American Horror Story: Apocalypse, Pose, The Humbling, and Like a Boss. He has also acted in the theater with pieces like Ghetto Superstar, Kinky Boots, HAM: A Musical Memoir, and White Rabbit Red Rabbit.

Porter is also an accomplished singer with four albums and multiple singles under his belt. He has also performed live in various venues in New York City, including Lincoln Center and Joe's Pub. 

Most importantly, he is a style icon who blows away everyone’s mind with his dresses. He calls his style a ‘walking piece of political art.’ The openly gay artist challenges toxic masculinity with his fashion sense as well as via his acting projects. 

Pose was one such series where Porter could express himself fully. The TV series revolved around New York City's drag ball culture with African-American and Latino LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming populations. The groundbreaking series ended with its third season in May 2021. 

The series garnered Porter his first ‘Primetime Emmy Awards’ for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, which was also the first time an openly gay black man won an Emmy for a lead acting category.

Porter’s Future Projects 

Even though Pose was one of the most significant projects in Porter’s career, he has many future projects in line. 

Porter has four projects coming soon — Cinderella (2021), Smoke, Lilies and Jade, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder (2022), and Little Shop of Horrors. Cinderella and Smoke, Lillies and Jade have been completed but not released, whereas The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is in the post-production stage while Little Shop of Horrors is in pre-production. 

The actor is playing genderless and non-confirming the role of fairy godparent in the upcoming Cinderella remake. 

In the Disney Plus animated series, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Porter will voice Randall alongside Zachary Quinto, who will voice his partner, Barry Leibowitz Jenkins. Similarly, Porter will voice Audrey II, the man-eating and talking plant in the big-screen remake of Little Shop of Horrors

The Pose star is also working on various scripts, a children’s book, and his memoir.

Porter started his career in 1992  by appearing on Star Search, an American talent show where he won $100,000. Since then, he started doing theater, and in 1996 he appeared in his first movie, Twisted. 

With over 25 acting credits, four albums, six singles, and other upcoming projects, Porter has amassed a net worth of a whopping $4 million. He is also on the list of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2020.

In 2020, he recently bought a home in Bellport, New York, where he lives with his husband, Adam Porter-Smith.
