Zack Snyder’s Justice League was a testament to what fans could make possible by coming together. The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut was one of the biggest campaigns by fans in cinema history. Once again, fans of the DCEU have launched another campaign to bring back Ben Affleck’s canceled The Batman.

Ben Affleck’s The Batman

Ben Affleck was first cast as Batman in 2013, a few months after Man Of Steel was released. Initially, fans weren’t happy with the casting decision as most of them couldn’t see Affleck fitting the role of the caped crusader.

However, after the actor made his on-screen appearance as Batman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans changed their mind. Affleck, dubbed 'Batfleck,' soon gained popularity among the DCEU fans. And even though the movie was criticized for many issues, his performance received much praise.

A while later, a solo Batfleck movie was announced. Affleck revealed the title of the film to be The Batman in October 2016. It was also revealed that he would be co-writing (with Geoff Johns), directing, and starring in the movie.

Unfortunately, Affleck gave up the mantle of Batman, saying, “The troubled shoot for Justice league had sapped his interest.” In 2019, it was announced that Batfleck was no more. Robert Pattinson was cast as the next Batman, with Matt Reeves directing the upcoming The Batman.

What Was The Batfleck Movie About?

Ben Affleck’s The Batman never came to fruition, but thanks to Joe Manganiello, we know what the movie was supposed to be about. Talking to Yahoo Entertainment, Manganiello, who plays Deathstroke revealed that The Batman would have had a strong David Fincher vibe, with many inspirations taken from The Game (1997).

It was a really dark story in which Deathstroke was like a shark or a horror movie villain that was dismantling Bruce’s life from the inside out. It was this systematic thing: He killed everyone close to Bruce and destroyed his life to try and make him suffer because he felt that Bruce was responsible for something that happened to him.

Unlike Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, which plays out more like a detective story, the Batfleck movie would have explored the insanity aspect of the man behind the mask.

Will The Batfleck Movie Be Filmed?

With fans demanding for the Batfleck movie, there certainly is a push for Batfleck to be brought back. But the biggest uncertainty regarding the matter lies in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which will be released in 2022. Also, while fans have voiced their opinion on the matter, it’s not clear if Affleck himself is on board with the idea.

Still, the Batfleck coming back is still possible, especially since Robert Pattinson’s Batman is set on Earth-2, a different universe from the one Affleck’s Batman was set in.
