Many might know Olivia Jade for her career on YouTube, but what trumped her visibility as a fashion influencer was the scandal that she was the center of back in 2020.

Technically, her parents were the perpetrators.

Still, Jade was the one to have benefited from her parents' acts. So, what did Olivia Jade's parents do?

The College Admissions Scandal

Jade's parents, Full House star Lori Loughlin and her husband, the designer Mossimo Giannulli, bribed their way into getting their daughters into the University of Southern California under false pretenses. They even falsified her resumé and presented some Olivia Jade rowing photos to the college.

Of course, the only reason these offenses made it to the news was that they were caught by the authorities and sentenced to prison. The celebrity couple wasn't the only ones to get caught, though. There were a total of 50 people who were arrested for their role in a coordinated effort to buy admission to elite American universities.

Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison, and her husband was sentenced to five. Jade, age 21, was never charged with a crime, nor were any other of the other children who stood to benefit from the scheme. Both her parents have served their time and have been released.

Olivia Jade Requested a Seat at Red Table Talk

Whilst all this was going on, Jade requested for a chance to open up about her side of the story on Red Table Talk, a Facebook show hosted by Jada Pinkett-Smith; her daughter, Willow; and Pinkett-Smith’s mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris.

The four women talked about a lot of things during the 30-minute episode, but here are a few important takeaways.

Right off the bat, Jade claimed to have not been fully aware of the scandal and how everything went down. She even went as far as to say that when all of this became public, she was confused about what really happened.

Olivia Jade Confronted Her Parents

Jade apparently confronted her parents after she found out, but they didn't have much else to say other than they were sorry for their actions. Finally, they admitted that they went overboard in trying to give the best to their daughters.

The parents weren't the only ones apologizing, though. Jade assured that she took time off from the public eye because there were certain legalities that forbade her from talking about the situation in public. Now that she had the chance to speak up about what happened, she said,

I think what was important was for me to come here and say, ‘I’m sorry. I acknowledge what was wrong.’ And I wasn’t able to say that for so long. So I think people almost thought, ‘Oh, she must not care.’

Olivia Jade Wants to Give Back

Still, she was trying her best to look at the bright side of things. She went on to claim that her parents being brought to justice was an eye-opening experience for her. But, things weren't always that way.

When the news about the scandal broke, Jade wasn't sure why so many people were enraged about the situation. She argued that such privileges were so prevalent amongst her peers that she didn't think that it was a privilege.

All that being said, Jade was willing to work to put all of this behind her. She claimed to have realized how she had taken her life and lifestyle for granted and would now focus on giving back what she could to society.
