Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who famously played the role of Jaime Lannister in the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones, is a happily married man.

He has been married to his wife, Nukaaka Coster-Waldau, for almost 25 years — since 1997.

In a June 2021 Instagram post, the actor’s beloved wife revealed that they hit it off when both were 26.

“Once upon a time two young 26 year old, one with soft beard and one with soft round cheeks meet each other and played young lovers in a feature, and a love tail’s first page was written [sic],” she recalled in the caption.

She added, “Today with less soft beard and less puffy cheeks, blessed with two beautiful souls in their lifes and many new stories to tell you can add the age with 25 [sic].”

1. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s Wife Is a Former Miss Greenland

While Nikolaj is a renowned actor, his wife has also made a name for herself in the fashion and entertainment world.

Born in Uummannaq, Greenland, in 1974, Nukaka became Miss Greenland in 1990. She subsequently participated in the 1990 Miss Universe Pageant, where she came in 19th place during the preliminaries.

Speaking with InStyle in 2014, the Nightwatch star also gushed about falling in love with the pageant queen. He said, “I think it took longer for her. I wore her down. I was just crazy in love.”

2. Nukaaka Coster-Waldau Met Nikolaj Coster-Waldau during a Radio Play

Apart from being a pageant queen, Nukaka is also an actress. And when she was starring in a radio play in 1997, she came across her future husband, Nikolaj.

Interestingly, both starred in the same play; as per reports, the famed actor played a pilot who fell in love with Nukaaka’s character. He simultaneously fell in love with her in real life, too.

3. The Couple Shares Two Children Together

Nukaaka and Nikolaj are blessed with two children from their marriage, making them a family of five. Both of their children are daughters, who are Philippa and Safina Waldau.

Following in the footsteps of their parents, their daughters have begun their careers in the entertainment industry as well.

For instance, their daughter Filippa worked in a Danish short film, The Girl and the Dogs, which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014.

Likewise, the pair’s other daughter Safina played the main character of Simone in a Danish Christmas TV series named Theo og Den Magiske Talisman in December 2018.

4. Nukaaka Coster-Waldau Doesn’t Watch ‘Game of Thrones’

Interestingly, Nikolaj’s wife Nukaka has not watched Game of Thrones, the hit series that showcases the actor’s probably the best work.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in May 2017, the actor revealed that he “dragged” his wife to the premiere of the first episode, but she has never watched the show since then.

“She keeps promising that she’ll sit down with a friend and watch it,” he stated. “… It’s fine. You can’t say, like, ‘You’ve gotta watch me.’”

5. Nukaaka Coster-Waldau Has Limited Online Presence

Despite being a renowned personality herself, as well as the wife of a famed actor, Nukaka stays away from the spotlight and has a limited online presence.

She has an Instagram handle [@nukakacosterwaldau] where she has close to 12,000 followers. 

She occasionally posts pictures with her longtime partner, family, and nature on her Instagram.
