Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel portrayed an amazing mother-daughter duo on Gilmore Girls. Their relationship was more like they were best friends than a mother and her kid.

Their on-screen chemistry was so great, people always wondered if the connection originated in their real lives. Or if their on-screen chemistry translated into a real-life friendship.

Here are some inside details about Graham and Bledel's off-screen relationship.

Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel Never Met before 'Gilmore Girls'

While it usually is the case that two actors who are cast alongside each other in a project are first given time off-screen, Graham and Bledel were thrown in at the deep end.

They first met right before the show started filming during a dinner with the show creators. And to make matters more worrisome, this was Bledel's first acting job.

Bledel was immediately impressed by Graham. 18 years old at the time, she thought, "She had all the poise and confidence and energy of a performer! That was a new thing for me."

She was "dazzled" by Graham.

Graham, too, immediately took a liking to Bledel. "I also thought [she was] perfect for the character," she admitted during the duo's interview with Glamour in November 2016.

"Perfect. I thought we hit it off, and I thought that in enough ways, we look alike," she added. "I was always impressed by how much just natural ability she had from the beginning."

Being a novice, Bledel needed help getting used to the big job. Graham would help her here as well.

The two had great chemistry, or so it seemed to everyone watching. People especially took notice of the scenes where Graham would put her arms around Bledel or hold her hand.

However, these weren't even in the script. This was just Graham guiding Bledel to get to her mark during shooting.

"The camera work on that show is very specific and we really had to hit certain marks, which especially when you start out, is just a foreign concept," she said about this during her talk with TODAY in 2015.

Further, she also joked, responding to the 'great chemistry' comments, saying, "I'm mauling her. That's why."

Are Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel Friends in Real Life?

Even though they spent a lot of time together on-screen and had a great connection, this didn't translate to them becoming best friends off it.

Graham said in March 2014 that she and Bledel would "always have a special bond." She also said they saw each other a while back.

However, even though they didn't hang out with one another all the time, they still stayed in touch with each other.

Graham was in the loop about Bledel and her relationship with now husband, Vincent Kartheiser. She congratulated them on their engagement over Twitter.

But it's not clear whether she was invited to their secret wedding in August 2014.

The duo already spent a lot of time together at work. In 2005, Graham talked about how they had spent time together outside of work, but if they spent as much time together on set as they did off it, they would never be alone.
