Carla Gugino Is Not in a Hurry to Make Sebastian Gutierrez Her Husband
Actress Carla Gugino has been around for the longest time, but a new generation of audiences may recognize Gugino as the nameless English narrator who ends up playing a pivotal part in Netflix’s anthology The Haunting of Bly Manor.
She’s well known for her darker material with roles suitable only for mature audiences. Like in Mike Flanagan’s Gerald’s Game where her character finds herself in a fatal misfortune during, what was supposed to be, a spicy night with her husband, played by Bruce Greenwood.
But Gugino has also done lighthearted roles, including a recurring role as the mom in the Spy Kids franchise and celebrated TV show, Watchmen,
In 2019’s action series Jett, she starred as a thief looking to turn her life around.
Jett was created and produced by famous Venezuelan filmmaker Sebastian Gutierrez, with whom Gugino has been romantically involved for well over a decade.
Gugino’s Long-time Love
Gugino may be more prominent between the two, but Gutierrez is hugely successful in his own right, with many credits for directing, writing, producing, and more.
He wrote the screenplays for the horror film Gothika starring Halle Berry, the cult classic Snakes on a Plane, the remake of The Eye starring Jessica Alba, The Big Bounce, and more.
The producer is also known for his work Girls Walk into a Bar, one of the first motion pictures created exclusively for web distribution and consumption. The film starred his long-time partner, Gugino.
Gugino also appeared in the 1998 high-stakes kidnapping thriller Judas Kiss, Gutierrez’s highly regarded directorial debut. The movie took home the Critics Award at the Festival Du Film Policier de Cognac.
His successful directorial debut paved the way for many of his later career accomplishments as a writer and a director on various films while occasionally serving as a producer.
It looks like the pair makes a formidable team, with one capturing audiences in front of the camera while the other works his storytelling magic behind the camera.
Marriage Isn’t Important to the Couple
Although the couple has been together for a long time, they have yet to tie the knot.
In 2009, the Bly Manor star appeared on Women’s Health for a profile. The outlet noted that she predominantly lived in LA with Gutierrez and his two kids, then aged 14 and 15. They were together for 12 years at that time.
During the interview, Gugino herself opened up about her relationship with Gutierrez.
Marriage isn’t important for us. We like being boyfriend and girlfriend; there’s something sexy and fun about that. We’re very much about, “There’s nothing holding us here other than our desire to be together.”
The actress also revealed that they kept their love life playful to keep them interested in each other.
She shared that she puts on “fashion shows for him,” which he enjoys as he sips the cappuccino that she made for him.
The happy couple definitely knows how to keep the relationship fresh!
