‘Minari’ Star Alan Kim Lands New Role in ‘Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens’ after BAFTA Nomination
Alan Kim landed an exciting acting project, as he has been cast for the second season of Comedy Central’s comedy series Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens.
On March 24, 2021, TV Line exclusively reported that the young BAFTA-nominated actor would guest star as the young version of Nora’s dad, Wally, in flashbacks. The character of Wally in the series is portrayed in the present day by BD Wong.
The television series, created by Awkwafina & Teresa Hsiao, is a fictional story about Awkwafina, who also plays the main character, Nora Lum. In the series, Lum is a young woman growing up in Flushing, USA, raised by her father and grandma, portrayed by Lori Tan Chinn.
As for Awkwafina, she is a talented actress, comedian, internet personality, rapper, author, and television host, who rose to the limelight with her rap song ‘My Vag’ in 2012.
Coming back to Kim, the 8-year-old actor has recently been in the news for being the youngest nominee in BAFTA history. He got nominated for Best Supporting Actor at BAFTA for his role in 2020’s drama film Minari.
The movie Minari revolves around a Korean immigrant family trying to adjust in rural Arkansas — the family has a young son named David Yi, played by Kim, who has a bad heart condition.

The film written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung received a positive critical response, which helped it bag six Academy Award nominations, three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, six Independent Spirit Award nominations, along with the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award.
Kim is also a recipient of the '2021 Critics' Choice Award for Best Young Actor/Actress.'
According to IMDb, the young actor is pursuing his education and currently studies in the third standard. He will soon be seen in an independent film Latchkey Kids.
