Singer Ashe is best known for her 2019 single 'Moral of the Story.' Initially starting as a songwriter, she has now carved a name for herself in the music industry with her striking music.

Here are some interesting facts about her.

She Grew Up Religious

Ashe, whose actual name is Ashlyn Rae Wilson, was very religious as a child. She opened up about her childhood to Sidewalk Talk EDM.

Her mother is still very devout and imparted some of her faith and beliefs to the young Ashe. The singer revealed she still believed in some kind of god but wasn’t as religious anymore.

She Credits Her Grandfather And Her Brother For Getting Her Into Music

Growing up religious, the music Ashe was exposed to was influenced by her household as well. She said she had a bad repertoire as a kid since she had to listen to Christian radio.

Ashe called her grandfather her saving grace as he introduced artists like Bob Dylan and Jefferson Airplane to her. Another person whom she says helped her get into music was her older brother. He was into music and did a lot of freestyle, but she says music wasn’t his thing as he was more of an art and digital paint person.

Ashe Learned Piano From Age Six

Aside from people who got her into good music, another factor that helped were her music lessons which she started taking from an early age. She started taking piano lessons as a 6-year-old and later took vocal lessons from the same teacher. When she entered her teen years, Ashe began writing songs as well.

She Attended Berklee Because Of Her Boyfriend

Ashe earned a Bachelor of Music, Contemporary Writing and Production from Berklee College of Music in 2015. And while she was always interested in music, the reason she got into Berklee wasn’t to pursue a career but to follow her boyfriend.

When talking to Sidewalk Talk EDM, Ashe revealed she developed a crush on a guy who was great at playing guitar.

My second boyfriend, he’s phenomenal... like just the best guitar player. And I just like fell. I don’t care about anything else but how good you are at guitar. And one of the schools he looked up to and was considering going to was Berklee.

Ashe enrolled at the private music school in Boston, Massachusetts, after convincing her family to let her pursue a career in music.

'Sleep Alone'

After she graduated from Berklee, she moved to Nashville where she found songwriting and production work. She continued her solo work as Ashe and eventually caught the attention of Ben Phillips, who collaborated with her on ‘Sleep Alone.'

While not a major hit, ‘Sleep Alone’ found relative success and popularity among the EDM community. It also introduced her to a wider audience and helped land collaboration works with artists like Whethan (Can’t Hide), Louis the Child (Right To It), and Shan Frank (Let You Get Away).

'Used To It' & 'The Rabbit Hole'

After a series of collaboration works, Ashe finally released her official debut solo single in 2017. The single was titled ‘Used To It.'

A year later, she released her first EP, The Rabbit Hole which had seven songs — ‘After Life.' ‘Choirs,' ‘Sometimes People Suck,' ‘Real Love,' ‘Wrong Side of Myself,' ‘We Get High,' and ‘Someone To Lose.'

She Met Her Ex-Husband Through Tinder

Ashe met her ex-husband through Tinder. He proposed to her six months into the relationship. Looking back, the singer says she regrets getting married at 2 and explained why she might have made that choice to Besides TV.

I was really swept off my feet. My head wasn’t screwed on super tight. He’s very charming, very kind, sweet guy. And I think I thought in my head, “We look so good together, we come off as this perfect couple. So this must be perfect and it’s not gonna get better than this.

Ashe said she was proposed at a waterfall in Hawaii in the romantic gesture caught her off guard. She ended the topic by saying both she and her ex-husband were silly for moving too fast with their relationship.

She also revealed that she never wrote and released a love song. She pointed out that might have been one of the big signs that her marriage was going to fail, as she didn’t want to write love songs about her husband.

'Moral Of The Story'

Ashe’s hit number ‘Moral of the Story’ reflects her messy divorce. The single was executively produced by Finneas O’Connell and featured lyrical contribution from his sister Billie Eilish.

Ashe shared that ‘Moral of the Story’ was her way of sorting through all the noise of her split from her husband.

This time a year ago I was dreading the arrival of Valentine’s Day knowing my marriage was on the verge of Collapse. Months later than I should have, I moved out of my house, filed for divorce and left for tour. Faced with a broken relationship and no immediate answers as to why we failed, writing ‘Moral of the Story’ became my way of making sense of it all.

The song peaked at #7 on July 4, 2020, in Hot Alternative Songs on Billboard following a huge spike in popularity after it was featured in Netflix’s To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.

Moral Of The Story Was Written In 3 Hours

In the Making of 'Moral of the Story' video uploaded by Ashe on her YouTube channel, she revealed that the song was written in about 3 hours.

The song was written by Ashe, Noah Conrad, and Casey Smith. Ashe recounted how the process started with her saying “I just got a divorce” to Conrad, whom she had never met before at that point.

The three of them had a good feeling about the song from the start and Ashe got Finneas on board as the executive producer as he was the first person she called after she filed for divorce.

Ashe also made her daytime television debut, performing ‘Moral of the Story’ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Till Forever Falls Apart

Ashe and Finneas have been friends for four years and have written multiple songs together. More recently, they wrote and released ‘Till Forever Falls Apart,' a song that is about platonic love and friendship rather than romantic love.

Finneas told Variety that the song describes their platonic love.

I think because Ashe and I are true friends and we’re both in very public relationships, I didn’t want to write about something that wasn’t honest. So I thought I’d just write this song about this friend who I love deeply in the way that we all love our friends.

The two first met at a crosswalk in Highland Park near a coffee shop and knew of each other as they were in the same management roster. Their first collaboration was on Ashe’s debut EP The Rabbit Hole song ‘Wrong Side of Myself.' Since then, they have developed a deep friendship and musical partnership.
