Ever since the first season of the Japanese anime Yuri!!! On Ice aired on October 6, 2016, viewers have been dying to hear more about the second season. Here is what we know about it to date.

The first season of this anime series was the story of a Japanese figure skater named Yuri, who had lost faith in his own skills. He was brought under the wing of legendary champion Victor Nikiforov who was in charge of mentoring another Russian skater, also named Yuri. The anime was about the two Yuris competing against one another in the Figure Stake Grand Prix and the blooming relationship between Victor and the Japanese Yuri.

There were 12 episodes in the first season of the series, written and created by Mitsurō Kubo and Sayo Yamamoto, and developed by Maruyama Animation Produce Project Association, MAPPA animation company for short. 

The first season concluded on December 22, 2016, and not even a year later, a special episode was released - Yuri!!! on Ice: Yuri Plisetsky GPF in Barcelona EX – Welcome to The Madness.

Is Season 2 Coming Anytime Soon?

After broadcasting a special episode, MAPPA had been working on a movie Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence. According to Screenrant, the second season has been delayed due to this. That being said, the movie has not been released yet. The movie's official website did, however, post a notice regarding the production status of the movie, stating that the production is still ongoing to further enrich the film and thus has not reached the stage where they can announce the release date. With all of these production delays, the studio hasn't announced anything yet about the second season of Yuri!!! on Ice. MAPPA also hasn’t listed the series in their “coming soon” section. Oddly enough though, in the Blu-ray copies of the first series, the teaser trailer for Yuri!!! On Ice Season 2 was introduced. It showed Russian Yuri showcasing his talents and carrying out a new skating routine. This, of course, is not enough to offer an idea of the plot for season 2, but we can presume the rivalry between these two Yuris is going to continue.

As reported by Den Of Geek, when asked about the next step in the story, the creator Yamamoto told Otaquest that they’d be lying if they said it was over, and they couldn’t, wouldn’t, and refused to stop.  

I truly feel like the story of Yuri!!! on Ice was summed up over the course of its 12 episodes, but I’d be lying if I said that it was over. [Laughs] … We can’t stop, we won’t stop, we refuse to stop!

What Do The Fans Have To Say About Upcoming Season 2?

The relationship between Victor and Yuri has had all the fans wanting for more. They want to really know what Victor and Yuri's adventures lead them. Fans have taken it up on Twitter to express their feelings regarding season 2.

A user, @MadeOf_Star, has asked to give them more of Victor and Yuri.

Even though the release dates of both the movie Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence and Yuri on Ice season 2 have not been officially announced, we can still expect them to be released soon since the movie is already in production and the creator Yamamoto has hinted that it is not canceled and the story of Yuri!!! on Ice is not over.
