Precisely, the writing department of the Dark was handled by Jantje Friese. She was the brain behind the complex time-travel narrative of the series.

Jantje Friese is Production and Media Management Graduate

Friese was born in the German town, Marburg. She graduated in production and media management from the prestigious University of Television and Film Munich.

Upon her graduation, she then earned experiences working as a commercial producer at Made in Munich and Neue Sentimental Film Berlin. Following that, she produced short films such as Perle and Quietsch in the successive years 2004 and 2005.

Jantje Friese Made Her Screenwriter Debut in 2014

In 2014, Jantje Friese made her debut as a screenplay writer in the German language techno-thriller movie Who Am I: No System Is Safe.

She co-wrote the screenplay with her partner Baran bo Odar, who also directed the film.

The film received international recognition when it was selected to premiere at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, and at the 17th European Union Film Festival. Later, the thriller also won the Bambi for Best German Film and three German Movie Awards.

It was the praise and popularity of the movie Who Am I that helped Netflix to know about the talent of the Friese and her husband Baran bo.

Subsequently, Netflix offered Friese and her director partner to come up with a good script for a series. And then, the masterpiece, mind-bending series Dark, happened.

As for now, the famed screenplay writer, Friese, has been working on the script of her next Netflix series 1899.

She Has Acted in Short Films

Jantje Friese is popularly known for her screenwriting and producing films. But what many might not know is that the talented screenwriter also has a couple of acting credits associated with her name.

According to IMDb, the 43-years-old screenwriter has portrayed the role of Kassenfrau in an experimental short-movie named Annaottoanna. The short film was released in the year 2004.

In addition to that, Friese also played a recurring role as a party guest in 1999’s short film named Dolls.Â
