'The Expanse' Star Jess Salgueiro Was Intimidated to Be a Part of the Show at First
Jess Salgueiro was selected as a rising star at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival for starring in Mouthpiece. The actress has been a part of well-known productions ever since.
Some of her most prominent work to date includes The Boys, The Expanse, and the upcoming superhero series Jupiter’s Legacy.
Salgueiro played Robin in The Boys, and was involved in a key sequence that was met with much fanfare. But immediately after she departed from the satirical superhero series, she joined The Expanse for the show’s fourth season.
Playing an essential character in such a loved series placed a lot of responsibility on Salgueiro’s shoulders. The actress has revealed that going into The Expanse was intimidating for her as the pre-existing cast already fit the show like a glove.
Salgueiro Says Joining The Expanse Was Intimidating
The Expanse first came out in 2015 on the Syfy network. The series is a live-action adaptation of the novel series of the same name by James S. A. Corey. The science fiction series was well received by the readers of the book and average viewers alike.
However, despite all the love the show received, Syfy canceled it in May 2018 as the network struggled to make profits off it. Fortunately for the show’s fans, Amazon Prime Video picked up the series and renewed it for seasons 4 and 5.
With The Expanse having found a new home at Amazon, the series’s production went through some significant changes, with the most notable one being the obvious increase in budget.
Multiple new characters were introduced in the show’s fourth season, and Salgueiro was one of the new cast members.
The actress opened up about how she felt going into The Expanse given how well functioning the pre-existing cast was in an interview with Collider:
It was intimidating. Honestly, it was intimidating because it was a pretty quick turnaround. I had been doing comedy all summer. Got cast on the show pretty quick and had wrapped some web series in literally four days and I am on this crazy set with like a hundred background behind me, wielding a weapon. I am like, “what’s happening? Do I remember how to do this?”
Salgueiro plays Chandra Wei, a corporate security officer. She appears in 9 out of 10 episodes of the fourth season.
The Expanse Renewed For A Sixth Season
The show was renewed for a sixth season on Amazon. It was also announced that the sixth season would be the last bow of the science fiction series.
Based on the novel series by James S. A. Corey, it is still possible that the series will continue on some other platform. Dominique Tipper, who plays Naomi Nagata on the show, hinted at a possible continuation on EW Live.
Look, this is the end of the TV show on Amazon. So, we’ll just have to see what happens.
