Lost In Space is Netflix’s sci-fi adventure series that revolves around the Robinson family's adventures aboard a spacecraft named the Jupiter 2.

The series is set in the scientifically advanced year 2044 where the earth's atmosphere is no more favorable for human existence. Such a condition is caused due to the crash of an alien spacecraft into the Earth.

The crash creates contamination of the atmosphere of the earth and results in the darkening of the skies due to the spread of dense particulate matter formed with the debris originated from the crash.

After that, the American military comes up with an answer to tackle the planetary scale contamination. They construct an advanced mothership named Resolute and its Jupiter spacecrafts with the help of Dr. Robinson to rescue/transport the people from the contaminated Earth to a promising undiscovered new land called Alpha Centauri.

The series is a remake of a 1965 show of the same name. Both the show and the series are based on a novel titled ‘The Swiss Family Robinson’ originally published in 1812.

Writers Matt Sazama and Bark Sharpless are working on the scripts of the series with producer Zack Estrin operating as the showrunner.

The series has released two seasons so far—the first season was released on April 13, 2018, and the second season was released on December 24, 2019.

The confirmation of the final season was made after Netflix published a press release on March 9, 2020.

The media release also featured showrunner Zack Estrin’s statement about the show's nature and the characters' contribution.

From the beginning, we've always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy. A three part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle and end.

"It's also worth noting that, with what these characters go through just trying to survive each episode — if anyone deserves to catch their breath before their next mission -- it’s Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith... and The Robot. And, of course, Debbie the Chicken," said Estrin.

When is ‘Lost In Space’ Season 3 Releasing?

Netflix and the series’ officials have announced that the show Lost In Space is expected to premiere in 2021. But, the full-fledged release date is yet to be revealed.

Recap of ‘Lost In Space’ First Two Seasons

The series Lost In Space is set 30 years in the future where the colonization in space has become a reality. The series features the Robinson family along with other families on a dramatic space journey towards a new and better world called Alpha Centauri.

In the first season of the series, the Robinsons and other families are attacked by alien robots inside the earth's colony ship named Resolute. The families fly out of the Resolute on their respective spaceship (Robinson family on Jupiter 2) to escape from the attack. However, their run could only crash them onto an alien planet. There, Will Robinson (the youngest son of Robinson family) meets an injured but friendly robot.

After that, the Robinsons and the other families take the help of the Robot to safely get out of that alien planet to reach the colony ship Resolute.

However, everyone but the Robinson family, Don West, and Dr. Smith safely make it to the destination. The Robinsons, Don West, and Dr. Smith, on the other hand, get pulled inside a mysterious wormhole that tosses them out of the space.

The second season of the series continued from where it had ended previously. In the second season, the Robinsons, Don West, and Dr. Smith were abandoned in a strange star system.

After nearly a year, they succeed in reconnecting with the other colonist families in the Resolute. Their return to Resolute unfolded that entire colony ship (Resolute) was built around the remains of an alien ship that crashed on Earth. Plus, that was the reason why alien robots had attacked in the first place.

The alien robots again attack the colonists but the friendly alien robot of Will Robinson again comes to rescue everyone. The families, then, decide to send only the kids towards Alpha Centauri with Judy Robinson (Robinson's eldest daughter) and the friendly Robot in charge of the spaceship.

On their way, the children discover the long-lost spaceship called "Fortuna" that was assumed to have been destroyed 20 years ago. More so, the ‘the Fortuna’ was created by Judy's biological father Grant Kelly who was also assumed to be dead with the destruction of the spaceship.

The second season ended ultimately ended with a huge cliffhanger: all the kids and the Robot are stranded once again in an unknown part of space, instead of reaching the Alpha Centauri.

Now, it will be interesting to see how Lost In Space’s season three unfolds the mystery of the alien technologies and help the families and the kids finally reach the Alpha Centauri.

Are you excited for Lost In Space season 3? Well, I am.
