The DaBaby controversy has been making the headlines, bringing rapper T.I. and model and activist Amber Rose into the drama.

It all started when rapper DaBaby, full name Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, made homophobic comments at Rolling Loud Miami on July 25, 2021.

DaBaby's Homophobic Comments

"If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly [STDs], that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up," the 29-year-old said during his performance. "Ladies, if your [expletive] smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t [expletive] in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up."

But after the rant, DaBaby received heavy backlash on the internet, with people questioning why he felt the need to share highly questionable comments at all.

Twitterati also applauded the guy who claimed on Twitter that he was the one who threw his shoe at DaBaby after the rapper made such comments on the stage.

In the wake of his controversial comments, the 'Suge' singer took to Instagram to address the situation.

"I’ma address this [expletive] internet shit one time and then I’ma get back to giving my love to my fans," he said in a video that he posted on Instagram stories.

What me and my fans do at the live show, it don’t concern you [expletive] on the internet, or you bitter [expletive] on the internet. It’s not your business...What I do at a live show is for the audience at the live show, it’ll never translate correctly to someone looking a little five-six second clip from they goddamn crib on they phone. It just don’t work like that.

He further claimed the internet had twisted his words and used them against him.

T.I. Came to His Rescue

While DaBaby's controversy was heating up, rapper T.I., whose full name is Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., showed up supporting the fellow rapper.

The 40-year-old compared DaBaby's comments to Lil Nas X's unapologetic music videos and performances over the years.

"If Lil Nas X can kick his [expletive] in peace...so should DaBaby,” T.I. wrote in a comment on a video of DaBaby’s comments. “#Equality.”

Although he did not explain his comparison, Tip later shared a lengthy video on Instagram, addressing the response to his comment.

In the video, filmed while he was driving, he said, "Social media’s full of confusion. Words are often misconstrued. And to be honest with you, if homosexuals have more rights than heterosexual people just say that. Let’s let that be the law, is that the law?"

I just feel like I respect gays, especially the ones who have the courage and bravery to step out and live in their truth, I respect that. But, I respect it the same way if you’re a heterosexual person; I respect it the same way. So I ain’t even seen all the hoopla about. Some of you [expletive] just be up in arms fake caring just cause you ain’t got [expletive] going on in your life over here.

He also said he had a lot of respect for Lil Nas X after comparing him to DaBaby.

The same day, Lil Nas X silently responded to T.I. with a tweet that read, "lol."

Amber Rose Disagrees with T.I.’s Comments

After T.I. defended DaBaby's controversial comments, Rose, the LGBTIQ+ community activist, put out her words blasting the rapper for supporting DaBaby.

She took to her Instagram stories and asked, "What in the homophobia???"

Rose implied that DaBaby and T.I. were mad at Lil Nas X just because the latter rapper was winning. "To be this homophobic feels like they are battling something internally. This is not equality, this is hatred. Period," she added.

The 37-year-old model also shared she stood up with the LGBTIQ+ community and wished everyone feel comfortable in their own skin. She added that people should feel safe when they go to a concert despite their status or preferred orientation.
